After recent email leaks, which have been the largest in history, it is even more obvious to adopt a solution to protect our privacy on the internet.
This should have been one of the purposes to fulfill in the new year, and that we should carry to the letter in our day to day; why? Because of our data, in the virtual world, we can equate it to gold: companies dedicate a large part of their efforts to knowing more about us to elaborate their profiles. And what do we do about it? Put it on a tray without realizing it.
Today we are going to talk about how to start using a VPN to protect your privacy, but what are you talking about today?
Easy, a VPN, for its acronym in English “ Virtual Private Network”. Virtual Private Network is a local network in which any device can connect using a virtual link through the internet.
What does a VPN do?
Encrypts the data traffic generated on your computer or device so that other users cannot read it. Websites will not be able to know your true IP address or know where in the world your device is located, being the same hidden.
Benefits of a VPN:
- It is more secure and private, all data is encrypted so that third parties cannot track it.
- Help protect your personal information.
- They can be used to connect remotely and securely to your home, work, or university network.
Although we have to tell you that total and absolute privacy does not exist when using a VPN, since a website that requires your registration will be able to track it online. For example, you cannot hide your identity from Google. Google controls everything.
The VPN provider will be able to know your IP address, in order to direct the data you request. It is also possible that they know your name and address, although there are VPNs with a “no records” policy, that is, they do not keep records of your real IP address or the websites you visited through their servers.
It is not recommended to use free VPNs, since they do not pay for servers. Facebook has a free VPN, which really is not free, since in return you “pay” it with your browsing history, with your data (do you remember about the virtual gold?)
We recommend paying for VPNs that have a good reputation.
How to configure a VPN connection on Iphone or Ipad?
You must download some of the applications that are in the App Store, you can find them by adding the term VPN in the search bar, selecting the one that suits you best.
When it has been downloaded, the application itself will guide you through the steps to follow, such as choosing the country from which you want to use the connection.
In addition, you must allow the VPN to be added to the IOS device settings: Settings – General – VPN.
Once you are in the VPN configuration in the settings you must add the data related to the VPN service you are going to use.
At some point, a pop-up will appear on your screen in which you must click on the “Trust” tab.
